About the National Guard The Army National Guard is an elite group of warriors who
dedicate a portion of their time to serving their nation. Every state and
territory has its own Guard as provided by the Constitution of the United
States.
Job Opportunities When you enlist in the National guard, after your complete physical, you will sit down with a National guard Job Classifier. This man will discuss with you the jobs that the Guard offers that you might be interested in. The number of jobs available are unimaginable. Jobs from Veterinary to Truck Driver. When you and the classifier finally decide on a job, that is the job you will be guaranteed for the enlisted time. Under no circumstances will you be doing another job, other than what was discussed. Unless you request to be switched to another job. My job for instance is a Calvary scout they go ahead of the army and scout for enemies but I could change that at any time.
About Me My name is Ricky Stewart and I joined the National Guard Oct 06, 2005. I joined the Guard mainly for college money. The guard will pay for all of your tuition plus give you money for books. I will ship off to Basic training Aug 16. I will go to Fort Knox to train to be a Calvary scout. It will take about 14 weeks with basic training and AIT (Advanced Individual training) together. But if you didn't want to do basic and your AIT at the same time you could do DEP
Delayed Entry Program (DEP) DEP is a program you will automatically be enrolled in while you are waiting to go to Boot Camp. You will meet occasionally with your recruiter to discuss information you will need for boot camp, and the Army as a whole.
Other Benefits for joining the Guard In addition to the tuition assistance, you also get a 20,000 dollar sign-on-bonus. Plus if you make over a 50 on the ASVAB test, then they give you an extra 7,000 dollars for college. Plus when you get in to college you can take a college credit class called ROTC that they pay you to go to and you graduate as a Second Lieutenant in the army. There are several other bonuses and benefits in the army. I can't name them all, but if you would like to know more about it, contact my recruiter with the information below. It's not all about the money of course. If you put down on a job application that you are in the army, then they will know that you have the training and leadership skills to be a good employee. And take it from someone who knows, you get a great feeling knowing that your apart of something a lot bigger than yourself.
Are You Thinking About It? At the top of this page I have a link to www.1-800-GO-Guard.com. There you can find out all the information you will need to know about the army and if you want to talk to my recruiter Staff Sergeant David Cherry he will answer whatever questions you have about the Guard. This is a big decision in your life. You will have a lot of questions so don't be afraid to ask.
