All About Me Hello my name is Witt Cook and I am a recruit of the United States Navy. My ship date is June 11, 2003, I have been a recruit since September 28, 2002. I am a Senior at Macon County High School. I would like to take a little bit of time to explain the advantages of the Navy and the opportunities that lie within it.
The Beginnings The beginning of my career will start out at The Great Lakes Recruit Training Command ( Boot Camp). This training is in a town about 30 minutes outside Chicago. This will be about a 9 week training program that will change me from a civilian to a sailor.
Delayed Entry Program (DEP) DEP is a program you will automatically be enrolled in while you are waiting to go to Boot Camp. You will meet occasionally with your recruiter to discuss information you will need for boot camp, and the Navy as a whole. Travel One advantage of the Navy is the travel opportunity. If you are into travel, this is your opportunity to see the world. College The greatest advantage to me is the money for college, and the Montgomery GI Bill. I've been granted 40,000 for the Navy College fund. In October, Legislature passed 100% tuition. So all of your college is courtesy of the U.S. Navy. The MGIB is starting out at $28,000, and I can use that for up to 10 years after I am honorably discharged.
Job Opportunities When you enlist in the Navy, after your complete physical, you will sit down with a Navy Job Classifier. This man will discuss with you the jobs that the Navy offers. The number of jobs available are unimaginable. Jobs from Navy SEALS to Chaplains. When you and the classifier finally decide on a job, that is the job you will be guaranteed for the enlisted time. Under no circumstances will you be doing another job, other than what was discussed. I joined the U.S. Navy on September 28,2002. I will leave for Chicago on June 11, 2003. I discussed earlier about the jobs. My job is Master-At-Arms. Its the police force of the U.S. Navy. I am very excited about my future. My training after basic, will be in San Antonio, Texas. There I will be for 7 weeks. I will be trained in Self-Defense and Law Enforcement tactics.
United States Navy Drug Policy While on active duty in the United States Navy, you are strictly forbidden of any type of Illegal Drug. The Navy has a Zero Tolerance Policy. Drug test are given unannounced, if you fail, you are dishonorably discharged, no questions asked.
Are You Thinking About It? At the top of this page I have a link to Navy. com. There you can take a journey on the life accelerator to find out what kind of Navy job would suit you the most, you can also enter your zip code to find your local recruiter (Tell them Witt sent you!). You can join or just talk to him and he will answer any of your questions. Believe me, you will have questions. I asked a hundred questions. Its a major decision in your life and requires a lot of thought and prayer. Thank you for your time. U.S.N. Recruit Witt Cook, NRS Gallatin TN
